Project details

UN agencies in Geneva will open their gates to the public on 27 to 28 October 2001. Under the theme Volunteers for Peace, this two-day Open Day event will feature the initiatives of Swiss volunteers and their counterparts within the UN system. Special events are planned for families --especially those with children-- in the grounds of the Palais des Nations. Participating organizations include UN agencies, programs and funds in Geneva as well as the Bonn-based United Nations Volunteers (UNV) program. Other participants include CERN and a large number of local and international volunteer organizations.

The year 2001 --proclaimed International Year of Volunteers (IYV 2001) by the United Nations-- provides a timely opportunity to highlight the achievements of millions of volunteers worldwide. The Year is also a platform for people to engage in volunteer activity. Over 100 national committees have been set up all over the world to implement the four objectives of the year: recognition, facilitation, networking and promotion of volunteering.

Role of ICVolunteers

ICVolunteers recruited, trained and coordinated 150 volunteers for the UN Open Day.

Short Term Projects
