CyberServices: at a glance

Contact

ICVolunteers is an international non-profit organization working in hte fields of conference support, languages and cybervolunteerism.

The CyberVolunteers Program recruits, trains and coordinates volunteers with skills in information and communication technology (ICT) for development.

Volunteers participate in local, regional and international projects for a period of several weeks or months, offering their skills in areas such as web or software development, system administration and content generation.

The Program values in particular South-South exchanges, but also includes South-North and North-South cooperation.

Specific Services

ICVolunteers and its CyberVolunteers Programme implements two types of activities:

  • Our service department responds to requests and needs from partner organizations
  • Our research and development department develops new projects and initiatives in line with our objectives

We work with volunteers to develop social and educational programmes in order to help populations and local communities to develop.

A 'Cybervolunteer' may offer his/her skills through:

  • Providing technical assistance related to computer systems, both online and onsite
  • Designing and implementing Information and Communication Technology (ICT) training courses
  • Building capacity through training of trainers
  • Empowering local populations in ICTs
  • Helping set up web sites

The Program creates opportunities for volunteers to gain experience and offer their skills. Our partner organizations can learn valuable skills from cyber-volunteers and, in turn, are then able to teach others.

Our Network

ICVolunteers works with a network of over 8,000 individuals and volunteers from some 100 countries and speaking more than 130 different languages.

Where?

The CyberVolunteers Programme has projects in Brazil, Congo (Brazzaville), France, Mali, Senegal, South Africa, Switzerland and Uganda.

ICTs to Aid Development

CyberVolunteers sees information and communication technologies (ICTs) not as an end-goal, but rather as a tool for development, in that ICTs empower local populations and stimulate their economy. The added value generated by the digital society, in particular through the Internet, offers a unique occasion to share knowledge of ICTs in real-time. The volunteer, being from a different culture, is the mediator between cultures for knowledge sharing, be it transferring existing knowledge or acquiring new knowledge.
